Wales

Welsh councils are trialling pavement charging channels, often with Welsh Government funding, but there's no Wales-wide scheme yet.

Key facts

Council scheme
Trials include Swansea (up to 10 homes, funded by Transport for Wales and Welsh Government) and Neath Port Talbot (10 households, fully funded through the Swansea Bay City Deal). Some councils, such as Powys, have no current plans to trial.
Cross-pavement policy
Decided council by council, mostly through trials.

Charging an EV in Wales without a driveway

Pavement charging in Wales is mostly at the trial stage, and each council makes its own decision.

Current trials

  • Swansea – up to 10 homes, funded by Transport for Wales and Welsh Government. The council owns the channel and charger during the trial.
  • Neath Port Talbot – 10 households in a mix of urban and rural streets, fully funded through the Swansea Bay City Deal.

Not everywhere

Powys has said it doesn't currently plan to trial cross-pavement charging.
