Key facts
- Council scheme
- A cross-pavement gully channel trial ran across seven streets, using lockable, self-closing channels with a personal key for each user. The trial has finished, but the council's policy hasn't been finalised, so the scheme isn't currently available to residents. If it goes ahead, residents may be able to install a channel at their own cost.
- Cross-pavement policy
- Not currently available – trial completed, policy not yet approved.
- Charging hubs
- Coventry has installed hundreds of residential on-street chargers, including slow chargers on street lights, through a series of government-funded programmes.
Charging an EV in Coventry without a driveway
Coventry has trialled cross-pavement gully channels on seven streets. Each channel had a built-in lock, with a personal key for each user, so nobody could tamper with a charging cable.
Where things stand
The trial is complete, but the council says the scheme isn't yet available to residents while its policy is finalised. If approved, residents may be able to install a gully at their own cost.
In the meantime
- Coventry has a large network of on-street residential chargers, many fitted to street lights
- If you don't have off-street parking, you'll need planning permission for a home charger
We'll update this page when Coventry opens applications.
